Even though both smartphones aren’t exactly considered value for money, the iPhone Air and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are considered engineering feats. Both Apple and Samsung have managed to make incredibly thin and strong devices, while also packing a punch. Unfortunately, the value proposition isn’t there, which is why over in China, the iPhone Air is facing a price cut.
iPhone Air getting a price cut in China
According to an image shared by tipster Ice Universe , it looks like over in China, the iPhone Air is getting a price cut. The phone, which normally retails for 7,499 yuan, has been slashed down to 5,499 yuan, a reduction of 27%. This is a big deal because for starters, Apple rarely discounts its products. Even when they do, it’s not such a huge discount. Also, for a phone that’s barely half a year old, it speaks volumes to the demand.
If anything, this price cut suggests that all the previous reports and rumors could be true. Following the launch of the iPhone Air, we heard rumors that sales were bad. So much so that Apple reportedly cut back on production. It even went as far as saying that Apple might cancel future plans for its iPhone Air series.
However, those rumors might be exaggerated. An earlier report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that Apple never intended to make the “Air” series an annual refresh . Instead, the company was going for an irregular launch. Then in December, we heard rumors that Apple could actually launch a successor this year .
It is rumored that it will address the problems users had with the first-gen model. This includes poor battery life and an embarrassing single camera setup. Whether or not those rumors come to pass remains to be seen, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
Samsung’s in the same boat
Apple isn’t the only one experiencing poor sales. The ultra-thin Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also struggled with sales due to the same reasons the iPhone Air did. Both phones were priced pretty high given its specs and features, with the thin form factor being its only real selling point.
Despite initial rumors of the series being cancelled, a report earlier this month suggested that the Galaxy S26 Edge might not be dead . The handset was reportedly certified in India, suggesting that Samsung could give it another shot. Will both Apple and Samsung be able to learn from their mistakes? Let’s hope they can, otherwise it’s going to be an expensive lesson for both.
