Meta is reportedly developing new mixed reality glasses under the codename Phoenix. However, this won’t be its actual name when it launches. The launch timeline of this has been reportedly pushed back from the second half of 2026 to the first half of 2027, meaning there’s still some time before we can actually see the new Meta mixed reality glasses.

Meta delays the launch of its mixed reality glasses to 2027

The new mixed reality glasses could be different from what the company already sells. These include the VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses. These could have a form factor similar to the Apple Vision Pro , with a puck-like power source.

The Business Insider report notes that it has seen memos from Meta executives about the delay, apparently after meetings in which CEO Mark Zuckerberg told them to take more time to make the business sustainable and deliver “higher-quality products.”

These could have a goggle-like form

Reportedly, the tech giants’ metaverse leaders, Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, in a separate memo wrote that the delay is “going to give us a lot more breathing room to get the details right.” They further added, “ A lot is coming in hot with tight bring-up schedules and big changes to our core UX, and we won’t compromise on landing a fully polished and reliable experience. “

The previous report noted that the “Phoenix” mixed reality glasses will have a goggle-like form factor. Although there was some initial skepticism regarding the puck, they eventually chose to keep it. This with a goal to keep the glasses lighter and more comfortable, while also preventing overheating.

The report adds that Meta also plans to release a new “limited edition” wearable device code-named “Malibu 2” in 2026. Additionally, the company is reportedly starting work on the next-generation Quest device. This will be a product, according to Aul and Cairns, that will focus on immersive gaming and more.
