Motorola ’s upcoming flagship smartphone could have an unexpected name. We’re talking about the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra here. Well, it was known by that name until now, at the very least.
The Motorola Edge 70 Ultra will launch under a new name, it seems
We’ve exclusively shared this phone’s design recently, but it seems like it will launch under a different name . Based on the information provided by Evan Blass, this device will not be a part of the ‘Edge’ lineup.
Evan Blass said that the company’s flagship handset with a codename ‘Urus,’ which is the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra, will be the “first so-called Motorola Signature device.” He also emphasized that the device will not be “slotting into the Edge lineup.”
We’re not sure what its full name will be at this point, but more information will likely surface soon. It seems like Motorola wants to differentiate its flagship smartphone from the rest of them, hence this move.
The ‘Edge’ name could remain exclusive for mid-range devices
The Motorola Edge 70 was announced not long ago, and that’s the company’s mid-range offering. The Motorola Edge 70 Ultra was supposed to be the flagship, but that won’t be the case. The ‘Edge’ name will remain connected to mid-range phones, it seems.
The device itself will have three cameras on the back, and a really interesting pattern on the backplate. We’re not sure what materials Motorola will use, but it sure looks like the phone will provide a lot more grip than glass-back devices do.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC will fuel this Motorola flagship, not the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. We’re also expecting to see a larger display on the front. An OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
We’re guessing that the company will go for main, ultrawide, and periscope telephoto cameras on the back, though we still don’t have details regarding those. Geekbench confirmed that the 16GB of RAM model will be available, and that Android 16 will ship out of the box.
