Apple appears to have started working on its next year’s iPhone 18 series. The new models will bring a more powerful A20/A20 Pro chip , which could be based on a 2nm process. For design, we’re hearing that the company will refine the dual-tone design it introduced with the iPhone 17 series. Now, a new leak claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be quite heavy; in fact, it may be the heaviest iPhone to date.
iPhone 18 Pro Max could be heavy at over 240 grams
Leaker Instant Digital says the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max could be 10 grams heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which weighs 233 grams. This could mean next year’s iPhone will be around 243 grams. This means the iPhone 18 Pro Max will surpass the current heaviest iPhones — the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. Both of which weigh 240 grams.
The leaker adds that the iPhone 18 Pro will be thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is 8.8mm in thickness. The increase in weight and thickness should make the phone tough to carry and also heavy in pockets.

The phone is tipped to be thicker than the current model
The leaker opines that Apple finally understood that customers prioritize hardware specs over the phone’s weight and dimensions. This could be a dig at the iPhone Air. But then again, the iPhone Air cut too many corners for its high asking price. So it wouldn’t be wise for Apple to base its design choice on the “failure” of the iPhone Air.
The leaker hasn’t said the reason for the weight increase, but we can attribute it to hardware changes. Early rumors note that next year’s iPhone could bring improved camera components and a battery with a steel case. There could be other changes that we don’t know yet. Either way, some notable upgrades could be on the way, if the leak is anything to go by.
