Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 17 series in China back in September with Apple-inspired naming. The lineup includes the vanilla Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Besides these, there’s reportedly a new Xiaomi 17 Ultra in the works , but with no rear display. A new leak suggests that Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are heading to global regions soon. This also hints that no Xiaomi 17 Pro models for global regions.
Only the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra could be launched globally
Leaker Yogesh Brar on X claims that Xiaomi is testing the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra in India. This is one global regions where Xiaomi has a respectable presence. He adds that the phones will launch by March 2026. Xiaomi typically unveils its flagships globally at MWC every year and launches them in India soon after.
However, the leaker adds that there’s no sight of Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max. This possibly means that there may not be a Pro variant for global regions. If you’re living on the other side of the world, you’ll probably have a choice between the vanilla Xiaomi 17 and the Ultra variant only.
No rear display for the Ultra model
Global users not getting the Pro model of its flagship series is not new. Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra were the only ones to debut globally earlier this year. The same happened even in 2024, where only the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra debuted. This is probably to not overcrowd its flagship lineup and create confusion.
The omission of Xiaomi 17 Pro models for global models, if that’s indeed the case, means that we won’t be seeing the rear display on global models that got everyone talking. To refresh your memory, the Xiaomi 17 doesn’t get a secondary screen on the back, and recent leaks claim that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may not offer a rear display to accommodate better camera hardware.
It’s a shame that such a unique feature is confined to China. It could have helped the brand gain some traction at a global level. But then again, these are just leaks, and they can take a turn at any point. It’s possible the Xiaomi 17 Ultra could be similar to Xiaomi 17 Pro or Pro Max, or the same phone without a rear display. These are just speculations, for now and we’ll know more close to the launch.
