T-Mobile seems to have found a way to sneak in another price increase. If you can recall, the mobile carrier increased its late payment fee at the end of last year. In April last year, it increased one of their supposed regulatory fee by $0.50 per line. T-Mobile is now increasing the price of this fee again later this month. That’s the second time in less than a year.

T-Mobile is increasing the “Regulatory Programs & Teleco Recovery Fee” again

T-Mobile’s newer plans no longer include taxes and fees in the advertised prices. So the company is using them to throw in a price increase more frequently. The fee which we’re talking about is “Regulatory Programs & Teleco Recovery Fee.” This is a fee that T-Mobile explicitly describes as “not a government tax or imposed by the government.”

Instead, this is a fee that T-Mobile collects and retains to help it recover certain costs that it “has already incurred and continues to incur.” While the name sounds quite official in nature, it’s really not. It’s just there for the company to cover some of its expenses.

This is the second time in less than a year

In 2025, T-Mobile increased this fee by up to $0.50 per line for both voice and mobile internet lines. Now, starting from January 21st, the company will again increase this fee by another $0.50 per line. This means your “Regulatory Programs & Teleco Recovery Fee” is now a full $1 per line higher per month.

T-Mobile has upda t ed the price increase. The update reads: voice lines: $3.99 ($4.49 effective January 21, 2026) per line every month. (The breakdown of the $3.99 is: Regulatory programs: $0.50, Teleco Recovery: $3.49). For mobile internet lines: $1.60 ($2.60 effective January 21, 2026) per line every month. (The breakdown of the $1.60 is: Regulatory Programs $0.12; Teleco Recover $1.48). The company did not update the breakdown with the newest $0.50 price increase.

Do note that if you’re on a plan that has taxes and fees included in the price, this increase should not affect you.
