Samsung has officially begun testing its next major software revision, opening the One UI 8.5 beta program to a limited group of users. We already knew several of the improvements this software will bring thanks to leaks. Now, users with eligible devices will be able to get a firsthand early look. In One UI 8.5, Samsung has focused on three main aspects: integration, security tools, and user interface.
One UI 8.5 beta: Improving ecosystem integration
One UI 8.5 introduces several features focused on better cross-device functionality. The new Storage Share utility allows users to access files stored on their other connected Samsung devices—including tablets and even Samsung TVs—directly through the My Files application on their phone . This sets a true hub for data sharing across the Galaxy hardware lineup.

Connectivity also sees a technical expansion with Auracast’s Voice Broadcast feature. Users can now rely on their Galaxy phone’s built-in microphone to broadcast their voice to nearby LE Audio-supported devices. The upgrade extends Auracast’s function beyond media sharing into a proper voice communication tool.

Control, customization, and security enhancements
The update provides users with greater control over core device functions and a heightened focus on protection. The Quick Panel, for instance, is now fully customizable, giving users freedom over its layout and information display. The lock screen also receives refinements to clock layouts and adds weather effects to the alarm function.

Security enhancements are a key component of this release . The improved Theft Protection now safeguards the device and its data in the event of loss or theft. Furthermore, the system incorporates stronger security checks, such as the Failed Authentication Lock, which automatically locks the screen after too many failed attempts to verify the user’s identity via PIN or fingerprint.
Content creation and sharing
One UI 8.5 boosts one of the platform’s key aspects: content creation. The new Photo Assist joins all the existing features. Have you ever spent a lot of time editing an image, only to realize you liked a discarded edit better than the final one? Well, this feature lets you edit images continuously, without saving each iteration. That means you’ll have an “edit history” for that image, allowing you to choose any iteration.

Plus, when you share an image via Quick Share, the OS will suggest contacts based on the people who appear in the image.

How to join the One UI 8.5 Beta
The beta is currently available to owners of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ , and Galaxy S25 Ultra . This initial launch is happening in six key markets: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, India, and Poland. Users can register their devices for the program through the Samsung Members application.
If you own an eligible device, here is the process to register and receive the beta update. First, ensure you have the Samsung Members App installed and are logged in with your Samsung account. Next, you must look for the “One UI Beta Program” banner or card on the app’s homepage and tap it to enroll your device. Once successfully registered, you can then navigate to your phone’s Settings menu, go to Software Update, and select Download and install to pull the beta build onto your device.
As with any early software, users should expect potential bugs and performance issues. That said, the beta provides a sneak peek of what’s to come in the One UI 8.5 release.
