Samsung seems to be finally rethinking its digital assistant. In recent months, we’ve had leaks about Perplexity AI boosting Bixby’s capabilities. The One UI 8.5 beta already integrated the first advanced features for some users. Now, there’s a new look at the al Perplexity upgrade in the One UI 8.5 software in the form of images. This major update could finally place it in direct competition with other AI-powered assistants like Gemini.

The interface for the external source opens in a small floating window so conversations can continue without leaving the current app. Users can also rate responses or copy text easily during conversations. Moreover, Perplexity isn’t the only major integration planned. The same source also suggests broader third-party connections such as The Weather Channel, HERE Maps, SkyScanner, and Uber. The updated Bixby should be able to handle travel, navigation, and daily planning tasks seamlessly.

Samsung’s digital assistant is about to become smarter and more reliable

Device-level commands, such as toggling Bluetooth, Dark Mode, and the Flashlight, can be seen in the attached screenshots. These changes suggest that Samsung aims to make its digital assistant not only smarter but also reliable.

Further, another major feature shown is Bixby Live, which resembles real-time assistants already offered by competitors. This particular mode allows continuous conversations and numerous selectable styles, such as Interview, Storyteller, or Tour Guide. Camera and screen sharing will be available for enabling visual context for problem-solving, translation, or general assistance.
