Oneplus 15 Debuts In The Us For $899

Despite its early launch, the OnePlus 15 is not the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 device to launch in the US – that title belongs to ZTE and the nubia Z80 Ultra. It’s also not the cheapest, but it might be the phone of the year.

The OnePlus 15 has been getting a bit of hate this year, even before its release, because its focusing less on the cameras and more on the performance, which is really where OnePlus started, over a decade ago. A big part of this is OnePlus ditching Hasselblad for its DetailMax Engine.

We’ve been using the phone for a few weeks already and have compared it to a few other devices to see how the camera holds up, and it holds up surprisingly well. You can check out our OnePlus 15 review for more details.

OnePlus’ “Power Trinity” redefines flagship speed

Gone are the days of just sticking Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset into your phone and calling it a day. OnePlus is using a tri-chip approach here, which includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 announced at Snapdragon Summit back in September. It also has a dedicated Touch Response Chip and a WiFi Performance Chip. Which, let me tell you, the WiFi Performance Chip really makes a difference.

OnePlus also has a 360-degree Cryo-Velocity Cooling System inside, which uses Aerospace-grade aerogel and a 3D vapor chamber to keep performance stable even under peak loads. This is great for gaming, along with that always-on 120fps gameplay.

Now, let’s talk about that display. This is a 1.5K resolution 165Hz LTPO display, which OnePlus claims is the world’s first. This makes for a really great gaming experience, and thanks to the incredible cooling here, the OnePlus 15 does stay nice and chill.

OxygenOS 16 is the smoothest OS yet

OnePlus has always prided itself on being one of the smoothest skins on Android, and somehow OxygenOS 16 is even smoother. This is thanks to the Parallel Processing 2.0 and Predictive Back Gesture, which makes mutlitasking fluid and natural.

Of course, Plus Mind is also here, along with the Plus Key. This is the new button that is replacing the Alert Slider . OnePlus announced this a few months ago, so let’s pour one out for the Alert Slider. But the Plus Key can be used for Plus Mind, or a few other shortcuts. Plus Mind is a lot like Pixel Screenshots, but much better in my opinion.

Now, let’s talk about software updates. OnePlus has been pretty good with pushing out timely updates as of late, and they have increased their support now. With the OnePlus 15, we’re looking at 4 years of Android OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates. Not quite as long as what Samsung and Google are offering, but not bad at all.

Starting at $899 in the US

The OnePlus 15 starts at $899 in the US. For $899, you’re getting 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. But this variant is only available in the Infinite Black color.

If you want the Sand Storm or Ultra Violet, you’ll need to pony up for the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage model which is $999. Keep in mind that the Ultra Violet color is going to be extremely limited.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a release date for the OnePlus 15 in the US. This is due to the US government shut down, as the FCC has been unable to certify the OnePlus 15 due to the shutdown. And OnePlus cannot sell the device until all appropriate certifications have been secured.

For Canada, pricing starts at $1,299 CAD. The upgraded 16GB/512GB model is going for $1,399 CAD. Pre-orders start today, and open sales start on November 18.
