OnePlus recently debuted its latest flagship smartphone , the OnePlus 15, globally. As expected, the phone boasts top-notch specs, featuring Qualcomm’s latest flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. OnePlus is offering the new handset in two RAM and storage variants: 12GB+256GB and 16GB+512GB. Both models may appear identical across the specs horizon on paper. However, the top-tier OnePlus 15 variant offers faster RAM.

OnePlus using two different RAM chips on its latest flagship

According to the company’s website, the OnePlus 15’s 16GB RAM variant uses the LPDDR5X Ultra+ chip , which is slightly faster than the 12GB model. The latter version uses an LPDDR5X Ultra chip. Essentially, the 12GB model reaches a peak speed of 9,600Mbps, while the 16GB variant features RAM rated at 10,667Mbps.

While both models have the LPDDR5X standard, the “Ultra+” label on the OnePlus 15 16GB variant gives an additional 11 percent speed bump. While the brand hasn’t yet confirmed it, the “Ultra+” model could be using a newer Samsung memory generation. Other phone brands like Vivo also often use the “Ultra+” RAM moniker in 16GB RAM configurations of certain devices.

Does it matter a lot?

In practical use, the increased 10,667Mbps speed of the OnePlus 15’s 16GB RAM variant can contribute to slightly faster app loading. Also, it can deliver a smoother multitasking experience, apart from the improved performance on on-device AI features. Furthermore, the Ultra+ standard can deliver an intensive mobile gaming experience while maintaining stable high frame rates.

We can expect the next OnePlus flagship to use the latest LPDDR6 standard, which JEDEC released in July 2025. Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset, which is due in 2026, will also support the new RAM standard.

The OnePlus 15 flagship phone is available to buy globally, but the brand has delayed it in the US. The recent government shutdown has prevented the company from completing the FCC certification on time. It’ll be available at a starting price of $899 in the US for the base 12GB RAM variant, while the 16GB model will cost you $999.
