OnePlus is preparing for the global launch of its sub-flagship, the OnePlus 15R. Today, the company officially disclosed key specifications, including details about its power source. The company confirmed that the OnePlus 15R will carry a massive 7,400mAh battery. This capacity positions the device with the largest cell ever placed in a OnePlus phone released to the global market. However, it is not the biggest if we consider recent launches in China, such as the OnePlus Ace 6T .

This 7,400mAh capacity slightly exceeds the 7,300mAh cell found in the flagship OnePlus 15. The confirmation also resolves questions surrounding its rumored specifications. The OnePlus 15R arrives with a smaller capacity compared to the 8,300mAh battery featured in its domestic counterpart, the OnePlus Ace 6T, which recently launched in China. If you are not aware, the Ace 6T is the Chinese twin of the 15R, sharing the vast majority of its tech specs.

OnePlus 15R confirmed with massive 7,400mAh battery

The 7,400mAh battery falls short of the Ace 6T’s capacity. However, we’re still talking about a massive cell capacity. It’s clearly a big increase over most high-end smartphones available out there.

Beyond the raw capacity, OnePlus has detailed the use of Silicon Nanostack technology in the battery’s construction, which incorporates 15% silicon content. This design choice contributes to a higher energy density. Furthermore, the company asserts that this technology helps ensure the battery retains at least 80% of its original capacity after four years of typical use. This addresses a major long-term concern for device owners. The 15R will also support 80W fast charging via USB-C.

Performance and display specs

It’s not all about the battery on the OnePlus 15R. The device’s internal hardware is built around the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset . The phone is expected to be the first globally available device to feature this processor. According to benchmarks, the 8 Gen 5 SoC offers raw CPU performance capable of surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s.

Buyers will also find a high-quality 1.5K AMOLED display featuring a 165Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 1,800 nits. The screen received TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification. This results in reduced eye strain even on prolonged use sessions. On the front camera, the 15R will support 4K video recording at 120 frames per second, a capability previously limited to OnePlus’ premium flagship models.

The company confirmed December 17th as the launch date for the OnePlus 15R. OnePlus will likely confirm the device’s tech specs in daily teasers before the official announcement.
