OnePlus is possibly preparing for a major shift in its flagship strategy, as the latest report claims the company is considering the launch of Pro and Ultra models in the OnePlus 16 series. The last Pro variant device launched by the tech giant was the OnePlus 10 Pro. We didn’t get to see the launch of any Pro or Ultra models after that. But this may be changing very soon.

OnePlus 16 family may soon include a Pro and Ultra device

Historically, OnePlus has always launched Pro editions within its numbered series, a trend that continued until the OnePlus 10 Pro launched in 2022. After that, the company focused on a single flagship model each year. However, the latest OnePlus 15 is not a complete package like its predecessor, the OnePlus 13 or even the 12. The compromises in terms of camera hardware and display resolution are quite evident.

While the OnePlus 15 was priced considerably lower than the predecessor in China, most global markets witnessed similar or even higher pricing. This led to fans and tech enthusiasts criticizing the brand. However, a new rumor suggests that the company may be preparing something big for its upcoming OnePlus 16 series.

We might again see a well-balanced OnePlus flagship

It’s quite evident that the OnePlus 15 series targets the performance-hungry users. However, a new post shared on X claims that the company is exploring an all-around flagship that balances performance, photography, and overall usability. This move would align with earlier Pro models, which aimed to deliver a balanced approach. The base model, on the other hand, was to target performance enthusiasts and gamers.

If the rumor becomes a reality, the consumers will finally have an option to choose between a balanced vs a performance-focused OnePlus flagship. Further, the leaks indicate that the OnePlus 16 will introduce a display with a refresh rate of at least 240Hz. It may also have a 200MP primary camera . At the same time, the rumored OnePlus 16 Pro or Ultra variant is said to be launched in Q4 2026. However, there is no official confirmation from OnePlus, and all details should be treated cautiously.
