DJI has launched its newest 4K action camera for the global market, the Osmo Action 6 . It brings a slew of meaningful upgrades over its predecessor, such as improved stabilization, variable aperture support, and a redesigned square camera sensor. The product is aimed at improving flexibility while shooting.
DJI Osmo Action 6 brings a new square sensor and major optical improvements
The Osmo Action 6 features a 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor. It replaces the typical 1/1.3-inch 4:3 sensor found in the Action 5 Pro . The new lens uses a near-square structure design to allow more freedom while cropping the footage into landscape and portrait modes. A similar concept can be found on the recently launched iPhone 17 ‘s new selfie camera.
DJI says that the upgraded lens used in the Action 6 collects more light, though shooting traditional 16:9 footage will still involve cropping, which may affect final image quality. Another notable upgrade is the new variable aperture support. The camera can adjust the aperture between f/2.0 and f/4.0, compared to the fixed f/2.8 aperture on the previous model. Users can choose a brighter f/2.0 setting for low-light scenes or a narrower f/4.0 opening for better focus.
It also gets improved macro capabilities and expanded stabilization
The recording capabilities of the Osmo Action 6 are kept similar to the predecessor. It can shoot videos at up to 4K resolution and 120FPS, with cropping applied at a 4:3 aspect ratio. The support of 10-bit D-LOG video is still there, allowing creators to apply tones and LUTs as per their preferences. The RockSteady 3.0 stabilization tech makes a comeback with the Action 6, but is now available at 4K 60FPS as well.
Further, DJI has added 2X lossless zoom, portrait shooting mode, and improved compatibility with its own wireless microphones. Onboard storage has been bumped from 47GB to 50GB. Last but not least, DJI has not yet revealed the official pricing of the gadget. The company is still discussing the US release timeline. More information is expected in the coming days.
