Amidst the chaos surrounding the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung seems to be silently working on many other things behind the scenes. One of them has now surfaced online, and it’s quite wild. It has filed a new design patent at the World Intellectual Property Organization ( WIPO ) that shows a unique flip phone design. The patent images show that Samsung is exploring a reversible front-and-back flip phone design.
Samsung files patent for a reversible flip phone with a dual-sided display
The patent, as spotted by XpertPick, mainly focuses on the physical design rather than its hardware details. As with most patent sketches, this too shows multiple perspectives: front, bottom, rear, top, and side views. It shows the device in different folded and unfolded positions. From the images, it appears that the design doesn’t have a defined front or back when folded.
Both outer panels reportedly look similar in size and shape, hinting at the reversible design. This means either side could face outward. In contrast, the current flip phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 have a defined design, with a main cover display on one side and a plain rear panel on the other.

Not every patent becomes a real device
The images show a circular cut-out on one of the outer surfaces. It’s possible this could be a camera sensor, as there’s what appears to be an LED flash next to it. However, considering the nature of the design, we can’t tell for certain. The side view of the phone shows the hinge and a uniform thickness. Samsung could be going for a consistent feel regardless of how the device is held or folded.
The patent images show the phone in different orientations, mainly highlighting its unique reversible nature. While the idea might sound exciting, it’s important to note that this is just a patent and not a confirmation that Samsung will ever launch a commercial product with such a design.
