The Google Pixel Launcher will be getting a splash of color in Android 16 QPR2. Google will be rolling out an updated color palette for the redesigned Pixel Launcher search bar. Do note that it’s not rolling out yet, as the update is in beta form at the moment .

Pixel Launcher’s search bar will look different based on the theme you’re using

Do note that, when the dark theme is enabled, on a system level, a notably lighter Dynamic Color shade is used. It helps put some difference between the actual search bar and the broader pill.

On the other hand, the microphone, Google Lens, and AI Mode icons have a lighter background for increased contrast. You can see all that in the images provided below (QPR1 vs QPR2, dark theme), courtesy of 9to5Google.

If you’re using light mode, the background pill will be much more vibrant. The pastel look is pretty much a thing of the past. The icons are darker in light mode.

Furthermore, the icons in the search bar at the top of the app grid have also been updated. A slightly larger microphone icon is used, and the same goes for the Lens and AI Mode icons. You can see the comparison below (QPR1 vs QPR2, light theme).

This update is coming next month

Do note that the Android 16 QPR2 is not yet rolling out, though. It’s expected to arrive next month with Themed icons for all applications. Four icon shape options are also expected to be available, in addition to the circular one. QPR2 is currently in beta form.

We’re not sure when exactly next month will it arrive, though, so just stay tuned. Google never provides exact rollout dates for these updates, so we’ll just let you know when it happens, as per usual. There will be more changes included, of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what they are.
