Google isn’t forgetting its older Pixel phones . Recently, it pushed the Journal app to older models and introduced native call recording and the health & support dashboard. In the latest addition, Google appears to be bringing Pixel Studio to the Pixel 8 series, along with the app gaining the ability to animate images and share GIFs.
Google is bringing Pixel Studio to Pixel 8 and later
The Google support page mentions that the Pixel Studio app is now available on the Pixel 8 and later models. For context, this line previously said “Pixel 9 and later.” However, this support is apparently not live yet. Opening the Google Play listing does not let you install the app.
Besides the image generation, Pixel 8 users will get a new screenshot and general-purpose editor that replaces markup. This debuted with the Pixel 10 series a few months ago and came to the Pixel 9 with v2.0 of the app in August.
New image animations with GIF sharing
Meanwhile, the updated support page also mentions a new “Animate image” capability. Tap Animate image, enter a prompt, or select a suggested prompt above the text box. Once the animation is ready, you can add stickers or captions. Google will allow users to share them as GIFs or WebP files. We saw a glimpse of this feature in the Pixel Drop leak earlier this month.
It’s possible the Pixel Studio update was pulled back, but the support page went ahead and updated it anyway. These additions could arrive with the next Feature Drop, which might probably arrive with the launch of Android 16 QPR2. However, we can’t say it for certain yet, considering the November update was a big one.
