The POCO M8 series, which includes the M8 5G and the M8 Pro 5G, is the newest addition to Xiaomi ‘s mid-range lineup. The company focused on aspects such as high performance, long battery life, and high-quality displays. All of this while keeping pretty aggressive price tags.

The powerhouse: POCO M8 Pro 5G

The standout of the pair is undoubtedly the Pro variant. The phone features a massive 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, in line with recent trends. Even more impressive is its support for 100W ultra-fast charging. This allows you to top up quickly despite the battery’s size. It even offers reverse wired charging to charge other gadgets on the go.

Under the hood, the Pro runs on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset. Plus, a dedicated liquid cooling system—a first for the M series—helps maintain sustained high performance. The visual experience is quite remarkable thanks to a 6.83-inch AMOLED display that reaches an impressive 3,200 nits of peak brightness.

Camera-wise, there’s a large (1/1.55-inch) 50MP Light Fusion 800 main sensor (f/1.6 aperture). This is paired with OIS to ensure that 4K videos and low-light photos remain steady and sharp. Supporting the main lens is an 8MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2) for capturing landscapes or group shots. Selfie lovers will find a 32MP selfie camera that supports 1080p recording at 60fps.

The balanced contender: POCO M8 5G

The standard POCO M8 5G has also seen significant improvements over last year’s model. It moves away from the previous flat design in favor of a curved back and frame that feels more ergonomic. There’s a smaller 5,520mAh battery than that and its “Pro” sibling. However, it still offers a jump over its predecessor and supports much faster 45W charging.

This model is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and features a slightly smaller 6.77-inch AMOLED screen. Despite being the more affordable option, it doesn’t skimp on display tech. The screen offers the same 3,200 nits peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate.

In the camera department, the POCO M8 5G keeps things simple but capable. There’s a 50MP Light Fusion 400 main sensor paired with a 2MP depth lens to assist with portrait shots. The selfie department sees an upgrade with a 20MP sensor.

Smart features and durability

Both phones ship with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, with Android 16 as the core. It integrates Google’s AI features like Gemini and “Circle to Search.” The handsets also focus heavily on durability, boasting an impressive array of IP ratings (IP66 through IP69K). This means it is built to withstand significant water pressure and dust. The standard M8 carries an IP66 rating and has passed independent drop-resistance tests.

The POCO M8 series is available in Black, Green, and Silver colors. Early bird prices start at approximately $209 for the POCO M8 5G and $279 for the M8 Pro 5G. They are definitely competitive options for those who want powerful specs without the typical flagship price tag.
