The powerhouse: POCO M8 Pro 5G
The standout of the pair is undoubtedly the Pro variant. The phone features a massive 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, in line with recent trends. Even more impressive is its support for 100W ultra-fast charging. This allows you to top up quickly despite the battery’s size. It even offers reverse wired charging to charge other gadgets on the go.
Under the hood, the Pro runs on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset. Plus, a dedicated liquid cooling system—a first for the M series—helps maintain sustained high performance. The standard POCO M8 5G has also seen significant improvements over last year’s model. It moves away from the previous flat design in favor of a curved back and frame that feels more ergonomic. There’s a smaller 5,520mAh battery than that and its “Pro” sibling. However, it still offers a jump over its predecessor and supports much faster 45W charging.
This model is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and features a slightly smaller 6.77-inch AMOLED screen. Despite being the more affordable option, it doesn’t skimp on display tech. The screen offers the same 3,200 nits peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate.
In the camera department, the POCO M8 5G keeps things simple but capable. There’s a 50MP Light Fusion 400 main sensor paired with a 2MP depth lens to assist with portrait shots. The selfie department sees an upgrade with a 20MP sensor.
Smart features and durability
Both phones ship with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, with Android 16 as the core. It integrates Google’s AI features like Gemini and “Circle to Search.” The handsets also focus heavily on durability, boasting an impressive array of IP ratings (IP66 through IP69K). This means it is built to withstand significant water pressure and dust. The standard M8 carries an IP66 rating and has passed independent drop-resistance tests.
