Courtesy of Qualcomm, the mid-range and entry-level phones are getting a push. The San Diego-based chipmaker has launched two new Snapdragon chips, the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4. The unveiling comes days after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 went official. The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 is touted to offer “robust performance” for your on-device activities from AI features to enhanced gameplay. Both chips feature a Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU for smooth visuals.

Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 is claimed to offer a “robust performance”

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2’s CPU offers up to 2.9GHz frequency. There’s an Adreno GPU for your graphical needs. Qualcomm claims the chip offers 51% improved CPU performance and a 20% improved GPU, compared to the previous generation. It features the Qualcomm Hexagon Processor, which is an NPU (neural processing unit) to handle your AI tasks. The chip supports LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.

The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 chip offers support for an FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. For photography, the chip can support cameras up to 108MP or shoot from three cameras at once with the Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP. The chip supports voice assistance via AI. Qualcomm is also improving the microphone capabilities, with multi-mic far-field detection and echo cancellation.

The chip supports fingerprint, voice, face, and Iris biometric authentication. It also gets support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3. Connectivity support for the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 includes 4G LTE, Dual SIM, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 gets 5G, Quick Charge 4, and more

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 shares some similarities with the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2. It gets a Kryo CPU here as well, with two performance cores at 2.3GHz and 6 efficiency cores with a peak clock speed of 2GHz. The Adreno GPU will deliver smooth graphics at 120fps. It supports up to FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s support for up to LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip can support cameras up to 108MP. The Qualcomm Spectra ISP allows concurrent, multi-camera capture for photos and videos. The company is also highlighting “hardware-based multi-frame noise reduction” that apparently will eliminate grainy aspects when taking photos. The chip features Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4 Plus technology, which can charge from 0% to 50% in just 15 minutes. But the actual results will vary based on OEM implementation.

Lastly, connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.
