Qualcomm’s flagship chip for the year is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 . This debuted in September at the company’s annual summit. Without shedding too many details, Qualcomm teased the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Well, we now have an update . The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 gets a launch date. The mid-flagship chip from Qualcomm will debut on November 26th.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s launch date is here

While the company hasn’t revealed its specs or features at the moment, it may sit below last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. This is without compromising too much on performance. The tech giant, in September, described the SoC as a mobile platform developed “ to give you more choices and flexibility, while still delivering flagship features .”

Leaks from a couple of months ago claimed that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be a sub-flagship chip . Rumors note that it’ll power phones priced between $280 and $350, while offering a premium performance. We’ll have to see how true this is going to be, as we’re expecting to see it in more powerful devices. That price range doesn’t seem to be accurate.

It could be a sub-flagship chip

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be built on a 3nm process, much like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. However, the prime core clocks at 3.8GHz, while the performance cores have a maximum frequency of 3.32GHz. For comparison, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s prime cores are clocked at 4.6GHz, while the performance cores are at 3.6GHz.

Rumors point to a 1+7 configuration. However, leaker Digital Chat Station says the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 could come in a 2+6 configuration. This means two prime cores and six performance cores. The chip may use Adreno 840 GPU, but the graphics performance won’t be the same as the Elite chip’s. We should know the phones that’ll use this new chip in the days to come.
