Samsung will soon launch its first extended reality (XR) headset. Rumours claim that the launch will happen on September 29th in South Korea. It reportedly has a codename ‘Project Moohan’. It will be the world’s first device based on Android XR with the capability to run Android apps and games. As the launch nears, Samsung has accidentally revealed a 3D capture feature for the upcoming Galaxy XR headsets.

Samsung unintentionally reveals Galaxy XR headset’s 3D capture feature

The latest version of the Camera Assistant app, with version number 4.0.0.3, suggests that the Galaxy XR headset can capture 3D (spatial) images and videos through the onboard cameras. This should help it better compete with Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The feature can be enabled via the Camera Assistant app.

While the new version of the app is only available on the Galaxy 25 FE, the feature doesn’t actually show up. SamMobile notes that they had to transfer the APK file to the Galaxy S25 Ultra to see the new option.

Galaxy XR headset may launch first in South Korea

The Camera Assistant app will have the option to capture 3D photos and videos in the headset’s stock camera app. This hints that Samsung is progressing along with the feature and is on the verge of wrapping it up. This could be why we’re unable to see it yet. You can give it a shot by downloading the Camera Assistant app from SamMobile’s Google Drive link .

The Samsung XR headset may feature two high-resolution Micro OLED displays with higher refresh rates and onboard cameras. It could arrive with an external battery pack. Since it’ll be based on Android, the XR headset can run Android apps and games. You can control the Samsung XR headset with hand and pinch gestures. While there will be dedicated motion controllers, they’ll not be bundled in the box. Reports note the XR headset will retail between $1,800 and $2,800.
