Samsung has announced SmartThings support for Matter cameras , and it’s the first in the industry to do so . SmartThings is Samsung’s smart home platform, for those of you who are out of the loop.

Samsung SmartThings has announced Matter Camera support

The company announced that it now supports Matter 1.5 and, thus, Matter-compatible cameras. It was also announced that a new update is coming later this month to expand the existing list of Matter devices.

That list now includes lights, door locks, switches, and various sensors. Well, cameras will be added on top of that. “Samsung aims to ensure that products and services built on different brands and protocols deliver a unified experience through SmartThings,” said Jaeyeon Jung, the Head of SmartThings Team.

He also added that Samsung “will continue to expand our support for industry standards, including Matter, and further strengthen collaboration to drive new customer experiences.”

Matter 1.5 brings more than just camera support, though

Matter 1.5 not only adds camera support, but it also offers enhanced features for closure operations, including blinds, awnings, and garage doors. On top of all that, improved energy management is also a part of the package.

Matter 1.5 does support a wide range of camera use cases. That includes indoor and outdoor security cameras, video doorbells, and so much more. It also comes with features such as live video streaming, two-way communication, motion detection, pan-tilt-zoom controls, and event history.

The company also noted that it collaborated with a range of leading global IoT device makers. That includes Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam, in order to develop Matter cameras. These new products are coming next year, starting in March 2026.

Samsung also said that integrating cameras with SmartThings will help users “build a safe and convenient smart home tailored to their lifestyle.”

To wrap up, Samsung said that SmartThings now supports more than 4,700 models from over 390 partner brands.
