Samsung’s phones used to be renowned for its camera capabilities. That is still kind of true today. Samsung’s flagship phones, like the Galaxy S25 series , are pretty decent at taking photos. However, the maturity of the smartphone market means more competition, many of whom are producing phones with photo-taking capabilities that are just as good, if not better. So much so that Samsung fans have launched a petition , asking for the head of Samsung’s camera division to be replaced .
Samsung fans petition for camera head to be replaced
In a petition addressed to Samsung MX boss TM Roh, fans are asking Roh to replace the company’s camera division head. The petition reads, “Samsung was once a leader in mobile imaging, but today, due to the severe mismanagement and strategic failures of the camera division leadership, Galaxy cameras lag behind competitors in hardware, software, algorithms, and overall user experience.”
It also says, “If decisive action is not taken immediately, Samsung’s reputation in mobile imaging will suffer irreparable damage. We strongly urge you to replace the head of the camera division and implement a comprehensive reform.” Will Samsung address this petition? It’s hard to say, but the reasons are pretty compelling.
Fans are giving eight reasons why
The petition goes on to list eight different reasons why Roh should make this move. Firstly, fans point out that there is hardware stagnation in the camera s with no substantial upgrade in years . Secondly, they point at Samsung’s tech lagging behind the competition. This includes phones made by Apple, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
It also appears that Samsung customers aren’t too happy that the company is seemingly ignoring user feedback. They also claim that there are a lot of longstanding issues, like poor shadow detail, excessive noise, and unnatural skin tones, that have yet to be resolved. These customers are also not thrilled at how Samsung is seemingly “blindly copying Apple,” and losing its own identity in the process.
Then, there is the issue of skin tone processing bias. Users claim that when it comes to rendering Asian or Caucasian skin tones, it results in an unnaturally “yellow-black”. Users are also sick of slow and discriminatory updates, where older devices receive delayed updates or missing optimizations.
Interestingly enough, one of the reasons fans are giving is that Samsung is apparently “resisting AI innovation.” Users claim Samsung is refusing to adopt AI computational photography technologies , like Google’s HDR+ or Huawei’s XMAGE engine. Lastly, fans seem to have lost faith in the brand’s vision, leading to a collapse in consumer trust.
