The Galaxy A17 5G is a pretty cheap device, and we’ll see that come to life when we look at the specs. It has an MSRP of $199, but is typically on sale for $169, and sometimes you’ll be able to get it for free through some wireless carriers. And of course, the specs reflect that. It still has a 6.7-inch display, powered by the Exynos 1330 processor and up to 8GB of RAM. It also has a 5,000mAh capacity battery, which is the same size as the Galaxy S25 Ultra .
What really sets the Galaxy A17 5G apart from other sub-$200 smartphones is the update policy. Samsung is promising 6 years of major OS upgrades for the Galaxy A17 5G, which is pretty much unheard of in this price segment. It is a year shy of what Samsung’s update policy is for the flagships, like the Galaxy S25 .
The Galaxy A17 5G did launch with Android 15 but has already been upgraded to Android 16 . This includes One UI 8, so it’s on the same software as the Galaxy S25 series. But one major caveat here is Galaxy AI . That is not available on the Galaxy A17 5G, likely due to processing power and potentially as a way to differentiate the Galaxy A17 5G from the more expensive Galaxy phones on the market.
