Samsung recently announced its very first tri-fold smartphone , the Galaxy Z TriFold . Now, a Samsung prototype surfaced online , showing us what could have been.
The phone in question has four cameras on the back, which were probably a part of Samsung’s plans at some point. The images were shared by Omar Saheb, the VP of Marketing & E-commerce at Samsung Electronics MENA (Middle East and North Africa).

You can see the images he shared below. This basically looks just like the Galaxy Z TriFold , but instead of three vertically-aligned cameras on the back, it has four.

In his post, he did not mention that this is a prototype, but he talked about the Galaxy Z TriFold that launched. This is obviously not it, though, so it’s almost certainly one of the company’s prototypes.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold arrived to compete with Huawei’s tri-fold offerings. Those are the only two companies that have launched tri-fold smartphones thus far. Others are expected to join the party soon, at least some of them.
More companies are expected to join the tri-fold fun in 2026
Xiaomi’s tri-fold smartphones is expected to arrive next year, while other companies have been working on them too, based on reports, but no specific predictions were shared. We’re expecting HONOR, OPPO, Vivo, and others to join the fun too.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is a tri-fold smartphone just like the Huawei Mate XT and Mate XTs , but it’s still different. It has two displays, instead of one, and has a different folding mechanism than Huawei’s phones.
The Galaxy Z TriFold was announced in South Korea, but it’s coming to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the US as well. Other markets will have to wait for the second-gen tri-fold from the company, if something doesn’t change in the meantime.
