At IFA last month, Sharge was showing off a number of new products as they normally do. But one product that caught my eye was the Disk Pro. This is an external SSD that I’ve now taken on a couple of different trips. Most recently, I went to Maui for Snapdragon Summit, and now I’m currently using it in London for an embargoed pre-briefing.

I’ve been using this one for about a month before writing this feature on it, and I absolutely love the Disk Pro. Typically, I don’t want anything extra plugged into my MacBook Pro, but that has changed with the Disk Pro. As it is more than just an external SSD.

The Disk Pro does include an HDMI port, USB 2, and USB 3 ports. And of course, it has Sharge’s trademark transparent design too, which looks really nice with the short yellow USB-C cable to plug into your laptop. There is also a USB-C port on the end that is used to keep the cable tucked in neatly while traveling. But it can also be used for input and output, at up to 100W over USB-C PD, or 10Gbps for transferring files. Sharge really has thought of everything here.

I absolutely love how compact this SSD is; it makes it easy to toss into my bag with my other tech when I’m on a work trip.

How fast is this SSD?

This isn’t the fastest SSD, but honestly, for copying files over, I haven’t noticed any huge issues. I did benchmark it using the BlackMagicDesign Disk Speed Test, and found that it was boasting read and write speeds of around 800MB/s. That’s enough to quickly load games that you might have saved on this external SSD. But it does pale in comparison to the internal SSD on my M3 Pro MacBook Pro. This hits over 4,000MB/s on the read and 3,400MB/s on the write test.

In real-world usage, I did time how long it took to copy over a 17.59GB video file over to the Sharge Disk Pro. And it took 33.8 seconds. That does come out to the same speed as the benchmark showed, more or less. While not the fastest, I do think it’s definitely fast enough for most things.

This “mini dock” has everything

It is essentially a mini dock, with these extra ports being available, especially useful if you have a laptop without HDMI and/or USB-A ports available. But it’s not just for laptops, this does also work quite well with smartphones too. Since it is USB-C, it does work on most smartphones (even the iPhone 15 and newer).

Just plug it into the USB-C port on your phone, and now you have an extra 1TB of storage available. But it’s more than that even. Sharge has really thought about everything here. Because there’s a feature that I haven’t mentioned yet. Magnets.

That’s right, Sharge has essentially added MagSafe or PixelSnap magnets into the Disk Pro, allowing you to snap it onto the back of your phone while it’s plugged in. So you can record video directly to the SSD. Now, how clutch is that? It’s not quite centered, but because of the location, it does a great job of still having enough space to plug into the phone.

If you’re someone who does a lot of content creation on your phone, whether that be Android or iOS, then you’re going to love the Sharge Disk Pro.

Finally, we can’t forget about the fan. This is an actively cooled SSD with a literal button on the enclosure to change the speed. With it on “Turbo,” it is quite loud, but I will say that I’ve really never needed that turned on. Since I’m mostly copying files over, as my MacBook Pro does have an HDMI port already, and almost none of my accessories are USB-A anymore. Sharge also includes a switch to turn off the SSD, if you only need it for the docking features.

Now available on Kickstarter

The Sharge Disk Pro is now available on Kickstarter , starting at $189. Here’s the pricing for each storage config:

  • 1TB – $189
  • 2TB – $289
  • 4TB – $469

Sharge does expect to start delivery in December 2025, just in time for the holidays. So it likely won’t be long before you get yours, if you do decide to back them on Kickstarter.

We don’t normally cover Kickstarter projects, because they sometimes tend not to become real products. But with the Disk Pro, we are firm believers that this will be shipped, and very soon. At the time of writing this, Sharge has already raised over $300,000 of its $10,000 goal.
