To be honest, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery fire still makes me a little paranoid to this day. Lithium-ion batteries catching on fire isn’t exactly new, but to see it on such a massive scale is scary. Knowing that even the slightest defect could cause such an issue is concerning. But if you’re looking for a power bank that would reduce that risk, then the folks at BMX (Better Mobile Xperience, not to be confused with the bicycle brand) have launched their new SolidSafe Qi2 solid-state batteries power bank .

SolidSafe Qi2 power bank

The SolidSafe lineup features three capacity options to fit different needs. The 5K model offers an ultra-slim version for $79, while the 10K variant provides extra juice for longer days at $99. There’s also a 10K+ model with built-in microSD storage coming in February for $129. All three support Qi2 15W fast magnetic wireless charging , giving you the same snap-on convenience you’d get from Apple’s MagSafe accessories.

Each SolidSafe power bank includes up to 30W USB-C input and output for fast wired charging. There’s a full-color LCD display showing real-time percentage, wattage, and status updates. The built-in USB-C lanyard cable doubles up as both a carrying strap and fast charger. This eliminates the need to carry extra cables.

The batteries are also encased in an aluminum housing that helps with natural heat dissipation while keeping the design durable. BMX also offers 3-bay and 5-bay charging docks for users who need to charge multiple units. The SolidSafe packs are available in Black, Orange, Blue, and Silver for the 5K and 10K models, while the 10K+ comes in Black.

Addressing the battery fire problem

So, what makes these power banks different and safer than the rest? For starters, these power banks use solid-state batteries instead of traditional lithium-ion batteries. This means they’ve cut down on the liquid electrolytes that typically cause fires or overheating issues. The company went as far as demonstrating the benefits by drilling straight through a fully charged unit with no smoke, swelling, or ignition.

This launch also comes at an interesting time. Did you know that more than 1.7 million battery packs have been recalled globally since March 2025 ? Not to mention airlines are continuing to tighten restrictions on portable power devices. According to Daniel Chin, co-founder of BMX, “Power banks shouldn’t be the riskiest thing in your bag. With global recalls rising and new airline rules emerging, SolidSafe offers a safer alternative that cuts fire risks while maintaining top-tier performance.”
