Spotify is no longer just a music streaming platform. Over the years, it has continued to introduce more and more features that make it a social music sharing platform . Spotify has now introduced two new Messages features, which allow you to share what you’re listening to with your friends. Called “Listening activity” and “Request to Jam” , the new features allow you to see the activity of others.
Spotify’s new features broadcast current listening activity to friends
Spotify has released a real-time listening feature for mobile users, which allows you to share your current stream instantly with friends. The update brings live social interactions to the iOS and Android apps. Users can control privacy settings to manage who sees their activity. This feature aims to make music discovery more social and synchronous.
Spotify’s new listening activity is an opt-in feature, which allows you to display what music you are currently enjoying with your friends within Messages in real time. If you’re not actively jamming, the system will display your most recently enjoyed song instead. It’s worth adding that this activity is visible only to friends and family members you have already connected with on Messages.

Furthermore, you can see the activity of friends even if you haven’t turned on your own activity. You can turn on your listening activity with your friends via Privacy and social settings. These are accessible through the side drawer next to the “View profile” button. You can turn this feature off at any time.
Request to Jam feature enhances shared music listening experiences
Spotify Premium users can open a Messages chat and tap Jam to request a shared listening session. Once done, your friends or family will receive the request and can either accept or decline. If accepted, the recipient becomes the host of the Jam session.
The music streaming platform has started rolling out the Listening activity and Request to Jam feature to users in the Messages-enabled market. New features are available for iOS and Android device users. Since both features are part of Messages, they’re available to users 16 and up.
