GTA VI is without a doubt one of the most anticipated video games of all time, even after it was delayed so Rockstar can have the time it needs to ensure the game lives up to the studio’s extremely high standards. Fans were likely a little bit bummed when they learned that the game had been pushed back to 2026.

Instead of sticking to its original launch window of Fall 2025, Take-Two and Rockstar made the decision to delay the game’s release. Bummed or not, players probably weren’t too surprised. These days, delays are pretty common for games. In most cases, the majority of the playerbase would take a delay over an unfinished, buggy product any day of the week. And that’s really no different here with GTA VI. However, if GTA VI were delayed again, it would certainly dampen the mood a little. Luckily, that probably won’t be happening.

Take-Two CEO says GTA VI won’t be delayed again: “I’m very, very sure”

There’s no 100%, absolute certainty in the games industry, it seems. Anything could go wrong that could push the launch back, and it has in numerous cases. That being said, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is very confident that GTA VI will launch in May 2026.

Speaking to CNBC in a recent interview, Zelnick said that his conviction that the game will release on time is very, very high . Noting that he is very, very sure things will stay on schedule. That’s reassuring for fans. It’s also worth noting that Zelnick has expressed similar sentiment in past interviews. And things changed. So, there’s a small chance that the same thing could happen again. Zelnick is certain it won’t, though.

GAT VI doesn’t have an exact release date in May. Rockstar merely stated it would be in May 2026. That’s a more direct launch window than before, if nothing else. While it is further out, fans have a narrower timeframe to go off of. Before the delay, it was simply Fall 2025. So, things have gone down from a few months to one month. GTA VI will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S when it launches next year.
