A recent Pixel Watch update is making it a lot less cumbersome to take screenshots on the watch, and that just might make it more enjoyable to actually use the function from time to time. The Pixel Watch family of devices, like many different smartwatches that have been released over the past five to ten years, has had the capability to take screenshots and send those screenshots to your phone.
For the Pixel Watch series, this has sort of been an annoying process that users have had to go through. Mainly because when you took a screenshot, the watch would send that screenshot notification to your phone, but not save the actual screenshot. Instead, it would give you the option to share it. On top of this, any screenshots you took in succession would get pushed out of the way to make room for the most recent one. In short, if you didn’t immediately send those screenshots somewhere, they were just lost, and you had to retake them. That no longer appears to be the case.
The Pixel Watch screenshots update now saves screenshots automatically
This is probably the biggest part of the update to the Pixel Watch app. When you take a screenshot now, provided your app is updated to the latest version where this is included, the screenshot image will automatically be saved in your phone’s gallery under a specific folder labeled “Watch Screenshots.” According to Android Authority, which spotted this series of improvements , this folder is located in the main Pictures folder. So, it should be pretty easy to find.
In addition to the auto-save function, the phone now stacks the notifications for screenshots. So you can tap on each one individually without the others getting removed when a new one comes in. These aren’t major changes to the watch. It’s also likely that there will be a fair number of people who won’t care that this change was made. It’s still a quality of life improvement, though, and Google deserves a little bit of recognition for pushing this through.
This update should be available for all Pixel Watch models, though it’s not clear if it’s going to hit all of them at the same time. Since this seems to be available through an update to the app, it shouldn’t matter which model you have. Which means, it should be available on the Pixel Watch 4 , Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 2, and the original Pixel Watch.
