Today, TECNO announced its trifold concept phone, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept. This is apparently the “world’s thinnest tri-fold”. It measures in at just 11.49mm when folded, which is actually thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from last year. Unfolded, it is just 3.49mm thick. That’s much, much thinner than the OPPO Find N5, HONOR Magic V5 , and Galaxy Z Fold 7 , which are all between 4.1mm and 4.2mm when unfolded.
This is an inward-folding design, so that means you have two displays here, instead of one like the Huawei Mate XT trifold from last year. TECNO says that this design is more protective of the folding display and also makes it more durable.
Inside this concept phone is a custom-engineered dual-hinge system, using a small waterdrop hinge and a larger primary hinge. So when the device is folded, the small hinge allows the right portion of the display to fold gaplessly inward, working similarly to a traditional book-style foldable. The larger hinge folds over the remaining section and has a self-locking mechanism to ensure the device is both perfectly gapless and secure when closed.
Large 9.94″ display, 5,000mAh capacity battery
When fully unfolded, the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept boasts a 9.94-inch display with “minimal creasing” according to TECNO. This turns your pocketable smartphone into a pretty large tablet.
As far as specs go, TECNO is not releasing a lot of info here, but we do know it has a “high-performance chipset” with a “versatile triple-camera system,” and it will also have a battery that is over 5,000mAh.
This announcement comes pretty quickly after TECNO released its first ultra-thin triple-fold concept phone last year, in the PHANTOM ULTIMATE 2 , which was showcased at MWC back in March. We are expecting that TECNO will have the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold Concept on display at IFA in September.
