Telegram, one of the most popular messaging platforms, just got support for passkeys in its latest update. This gives its users a faster and safer way to log in without passwords or SMS codes. Once enabled, people can access their account using biometric security already built into their devices.

Telegram introduces passkeys as part of its latest security update

Passkeys are one of the safest and quickest ways to log in. More and more apps and services are adopting it. It replaces the traditional passwords with secure digital keys stored directly on the device. When logging in, the user can simply confirm their identity using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device PIN. This makes the whole login process quicker. Further, it also reduces the risk of phishing or account hacking.

As Telegram adopts passkeys, the step puts the app in line with modern security standards. The setup process is pretty straightforward. Users can enable the feature by going to Settings, then Privacy and Security, and selecting Passkey. Once the passkey has been created, Telegram generates a unique cryptographic key linked to the account and saves it on the device.

The update also brings gift options and audio support in stories

The best part of passkeys is that, once enabled, users no longer need to enter SMS codes or passwords. Moreover, Telegram also confirms that passkeys can sync with password manager apps from iCloud, Google , and more. This makes access easier across supported devices and reduces login delays.

Alongside passkeys, the latest Telegram update introduces two new features. Users can now make gift purchase offers directly from profiles, using Stars or TON. Offers include a set price and time limit. The payments are held securely by the platform and will be refunded instantly if declined or expired. The platform also gets audio support in Stories, allowing users to attach music from their saved playlist.
