Samsung ‘s Galaxy Z TriFold doesn’t let you transition apps from the cover screen to the unfolded main screen in the same way that it does with its Galaxy Z Fold lineup of phones, but it does let you transition apps. The problem, even if it is an easily fixable one, is that this isn’t the default function. You have to enable it, or it won’t work.

The good news is that this is pretty simple to do. It is, however, a bit odd that Samsung would design the phone to function this way. There is probably a suitable explanation for why this UI decision was made, but as of right now, Samsung has not mentioned what its reasoning may be.

You can force the Galaxy Z TriFold to transition apps to the main screen with a setting

As mentioned, it’s a simple process to enable the app to transition so it happens automatically when you unfold the device. Thus, moving the active app from the cover screen to the unfolded main screen. As reported by Mishaal Rahman via Android Authority, under the settings menu, then the display menu, there’s a toggle labeled as “ continue apps on main screen .” This is turned off by default, so you need to turn it on.

Interestingly, Samsung has placed a note next to this toggle that informs the user that screenshot resolution is lowered when you turn this on. It’s mentioned that these lower-resolution screenshots likely come about because of the way screen scaling is handled on Android. Basically, if Samsung didn’t change the resolution of images when transitioning apps between the cover screen and main screen, it could cause apps to restart because Android would see the transition without the resolution decrease as a “configuration change.”

Obviously, you want your apps to make that transition between displays in an active state. So that nothing changes and you can go back to what you were doing. Lowering the resolution helps to ensure this happens.
