The OnePlus 15R is now official. The device is now available from OnePlus’ website, without an FCC delay this time. It did go up in price this year by $100. So the OnePlus 15R now starts at $699 for the 12GB/256GB, while the 12GB/512GB model will cost $799.

There are quite a few changes this year for the OnePlus 15R, versus the OnePlus 13R from last year. And most of these changes, you won’t like. The biggest change of course is the camera. OnePlus has ditched the telephoto this year, leaving us with a 50-megapixel primary and an 8-megapixel ultrawide. Ditching that 2x telephoto is not a big deal, since you can sensor-crop on that main 50MP sensor to get to 2x and likely even further. But it does mean two instead of three cameras.

The front-facing camera did get an upgrade to a 32-megapixel sensor, up from 16 megapixels and it now has auto-focus.

Of course, the big selling point here is the 7,400mAh capacity battery. That’s about 23% larger than the OnePlus 13R battery, and it’s also larger than the OnePlus 15 battery, which we found in our OnePlus 15 review already provides incredible battery life. But it does charge more slowly. Here in the US, we have 55W charging, while the rest of the world gets 80W. It’s still pretty good, as far as charging times go, though I’d still like to see OnePlus focus more on USB-C PD for charging over USB-A.

The OnePlus 15R does carry over all of the IP certifications from the OnePlus 15. This includes IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K.

The first Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 device on the market

Qualcomm and OnePlus already announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and mentioned that this is a co-developed chip. Though we have seen it rumored for a few other devices. Essentially, what this means is that Qualcomm and OnePlus spent a lot more time tuning this chip for the OnePlus 15R than they typically would for a new device. And it definitely shows.

In our OnePlus 15R review , you’ll see more about the thermals and benchmarks, but as far as heat goes, this phone stays incredibly cool. Giving us some of the lowest temperature readings in our three thermal tests, we’ve seen. Which is really good, after the OnePlus 15 was such a warm device, and overheated in some benchmarks.
