According to Omdia , the smartphone industry grew by 2% in 2025, after having a record growth of 7% in 2024. The smartphone industry has been up and down over the past decade, having a handful of shrinking years in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. In fact, 2022 was the worst, when the market shrank by 12%. Basically, what that means is that 12% fewer devices were shipped in 2022 versus 2021.

While that is cool and all, that’s not the real story. HONOR actually grew the most in 2025. Having shipped about 11% more devices than they did in the previous year. That doesn’t mean they have the largest market share, but it does mean they are growing quite nicely.
Apple reportedly shipped the most iPhones it has ever shipped, in 2025. Which is quite impressive, but it also shows how big an upgrade the entire iPhone 17 series was for the company. Including the new iPhone Air, which is reportedly not selling well at all. Both Apple and Samsung shipped 7% more devices in 2025. To maintain 19% of worldwide smartphone shipments, each.
realme, OPPO, and TRANSSION had a less impressive 2025
Of course, while some companies shipped a lot more devices, that also means others shipped a lot less. The most notable one here is realme, which shipped 13% fewer devices in 2025, accounting for just 3% of total shipped phones in 2025. This is interesting because at the realme GT7 launch in Paris last May, realme showed everyone that they were in the top 6 globally since 2021, and were the fastest-growing smartphone brand. Looks like that growth might have stopped in 2024 then.
TRANSSION, which comprises TECNO and Infinix, also had a pretty significant drop year-over-year, at 8%. Keep in mind that TECNO and Infinix mostly focus on mid-range and budget devices, mostly in Africa and the Middle East. So to still see them in the top 6 is quite impressive.

Then there’s OPPO and Xiaomi , who shipped 3% and 2% fewer devices, respectively. OPPO is a little interesting because they’ve been growing in just about every other report. Though 3% is likely a drop in the bucket for them. The same goes for Xiaomi. Though I will say that for Xiaomi to ship 13% of all smartphones in 2025 is quite impressive. That’s enough for third place behind Samsung and Apple, who largely have the US to thank for that 19%. Making Xiaomi’s 13% all the more impressive.
Of course, we can’t forget about some of the OEMs that didn’t even make the top 10 here. Like Motorola , OnePlus , and most notably, Google Pixel .
