Qualcomm has officially released the stats for the benchmarks of its Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chipset for laptops. This past week, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon X2 Elite lineup (it also announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for mobile devices), which has a few different models. Most of the specs between the three are the same or similar, but the Extreme variant pulls ahead in a few key areas. Such as the max boost frequencies.
The Extreme variant of this chipset will have a boost frequency of 5.0GHz on both the single-core and dual-core levels. Meanwhile, the other two variants have a boost frequency of 4.7GHz for single-core tests. However, the lowest-tier variant of the chip only has a 4.4GHz boost frequency for dual-core. Compared to the X Elite, this is a significant upgrade. And the benchmark results seem to reflect that.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme scores 80% higher in 3D Mark than its predecessor
For gamers, the big thing to take away from the new Snapdragon chipset’s top-tier model is that its GPU performance is significantly better than the last model. During benchmarking, Qualcomm says it ran both chips through 3DMark’s Solar Bay test. This resulted in a score of 90.06 for the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and a score of 49.6 for the Snapdragon X Elite. That’s an improvement of 80%. This doesn’t entirely depict what real-world performance will be like in games . But it is a promising start.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme excels in other benchmarks as well. Qualcomm says that in Geekbench 6.5, it beat out other top chips in the single-core score. For example, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme had a score of 4080. Apple’s M4 chip was the closest with a score of 3872. Meanwhile, AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (found in laptops like the ASUS ProArt PX13 ), Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V, and Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285H all trailed behind by a significant amount. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 had a score of 2881, the Core Ultra 9 288V had a score of 2919, and the Core Ultra 9 285H had a score of 3026.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme also has a pretty significant lead in GPU performance over all of those chips in the same Solar Bay test. Additionally, Qualcomm is claiming that the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme has the world’s fastest NPU for laptops. In short, this is a powerful laptop chip that’s sure to make some waves.
