Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter (now known as X) wasn’t the smoothest acquisition we’ve seen. It was mired in controversy, leading to many wondering about the future of the platform. This uncertainty led to some, like Meta, to create their own alternative in the form of Threads. Fast forward to today, how does Threads fare compared to X? Turns out surprisingly well, where according to the figures, Threads has managed to beat out X in terms of daily mobile users .

Threads edges out X in daily mobile users

This data comes courtesy of Similarweb , where it found that Threads has more daily mobile users compared to X. This is surprising since Meta has launched many products over the years, only for them to fail, resulting in their closure. We have to admit that at one point, Threads felt like it was headed towards a similar direction. However, based on these numbers, there’s hope yet.

Similarweb’s figures show a somewhat steady rise in daily mobile users over the past couple of years. X, on the other hand, seems to be declining. Don’t get us wrong, X is nowhere close to being in trouble. It’s just that Threads seems to be gaining popularity since around Q3 2025 where it slowly started to overtake X.

As of now, Threads boasts 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android . X, on the other hand, has 125 million. That being said, this is for mobile only. When it comes to the web, X is still very much in the lead. This shouldn’t be too surprising since Threads was designed with mobile in mind. Maybe with a more improved and user-friendly web interface that could change.

The Meta advantage

So, is Threads really that much better than X? That’s a bit hard to say. Depending on the type of content you’re after, both platforms serve a need. However, Meta does have the advantage here thanks to its ability for cross-promotions across other platforms like Facebook and Instagram .

While scrolling on Instagram, you might notice Threads inserts, which depending on the topic could get you to click. X is more standalone, but it does have the advantage of having existing users back when it was known as Twitter. Will Threads eventually replace X as the go-to social media space? Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps both platforms will co-exist, serving different audiences.
