Threads, as you may know, is one of the fastest-growing social media apps , after Meta decided to launch it to take on X (formerly Twitter). In the recent past, the company has added multiple new features to the platform. But it seems Meta is looking beyond messaging and community features . According to a new report, you may soon be able to play a basketball game while chatting with your friends on Threads.

Meta is reportedly testing a basketball game for Threads

The news comes via TechCrunch , which confirmed that the company is internally testing the game inside Threads. As of now, it’s not available to the public. But thanks to reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi on X , we now have our first look at the basketball game. We’ve attached the screenshot at the end of this article for you to check.

The screenshot shared by Paluzzi suggests that the game would allow Threads users to virtually shoot hoops by swiping fingers. The game Meta is working on is minimalist in nature. It allows friends and family to compete in a fun way to see who can score more baskets.

If you’ve ever played games inside Facebook Messenger, you probably get the idea of what Meta is trying to do here. As mentioned earlier, Meta launched Threads to take on the likes of X and Bluesky. Now, by bringing games inside chats, the company is looking to gain a competitive advantage, while hoping to drive more users to its social media platform.

It’s unclear if or when the game will land

The game is still in the prototype stage, which means it’s unclear if it will ever roll out to Threads. That said, this isn’t the first time Meta has tried games inside its messaging apps. Last year, Meta dropped a new emoji-based game inside Instagram chat. The game had a paddle that moved around while you aimed to bump the tapped emoji, so it didn’t miss the paddle. If it missed, you lost the game. Speaking of Instagram, the platform’s CEO has recently advocated the idea of labeling human content to fight AI slop .
