Threads rolled out over 100 communities back in October. These are public, casual spaces where you can exchange perspectives and join conversations about various topics like TV, basketball, and more. Today, Meta is expanding the communities feature to more than 200 interests. In addition to that, Threads is also testing two community-focused features, including community champion badges and community flair.

Meta expands the communities feature to more than 200 interests

Communities feature is built on features like custom feeds and topic tags to help you connect with people who share your interests. Users could find communities via the Search tool or across their timeline. The initial list of communities included AI Threads, F1 Threads, Kpop Threads, Design Threads, and TV Threads.

Meta is now expanding the official Threads app communities list to over 200 groups, with greater granularity . This means NBA fans can now join team-specific communities, like Lakers Threads, Knicks Threads, or Spurs Threads.

New community champion badges and flair

Additionally, Threads is now testing two community-focused features, which were reportedly initially available to a select small set of users. These include Threads community champion badges and community flair. People who are highly followed by other community members, regularly post in a community, and keep conversations going in the replies will receive a special community champion badge as recognition for “shaping their community.”

Meanwhile, the community flair lets users display their interests within a given group. For example, you can specify which team you would like to discuss in NBA Threads. Meta says that community champions choose the flair options, and any flair members select will appear on all their posts in that community.

After adding communities in October, Threads gained new tools that let users approve and filter replies . This will allow users to have more control over the conversations. Additionally, the company has also announced it has over 150 million daily active users , suggesting it’s on a growth path.
