Threads from Instagram is a text-based social media app. It allows users to share text updates, photos, videos, and links in public conversations. It leverages Instagram accounts by automatically fetching usernames and verification badges. After testing the ability to share the long-form text feature, Meta is now making the feature official . Threads posts now support text attachments up to 10,000 characters in posts.

Threads gets a new long-form text attachment feature

Meta, in a blog post , says the text attachments feature in the Threads app is meant for authors and creators on the platform. Selecting the ‘text attachment’ option from the post composer opens up the text editor. It also includes some formatting options like bold, italic, underline, and strikeout. Once the post is published, text attachments open either in a dedicated window on the thread’s website or in a full-screen view on mobile .

If there’s a link added to the post, the text attachment will show a preview of the linked post at the end of the text. This stems from Meta’s efforts to give creators a boost on the platform.

More formatting options are coming

Meta notes that the feature is still in its early days. It plans to improve while continuing to gather feedback. This comes at a time when Threads reached a major milestone by hitting 400 million active users. The app continues to add new users.
