From being a video platform that hosted a lot of silly memes and dance videos, TikTok has grown into the social media juggernaut that we all know (and use) today. Perhaps looking to seal its legitimacy, TikTok has announced its first-ever awards show in the US.
TikTok to host its first-ever awards show in the US
According to the announcement on its website, the company will be hosting the TikTok Awards show in the US on Thursday, December 18. The event will be hosted at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. It will celebrate creators with awards and titles. This includes Creator of the Year, Video of the Year, Muse of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and more.
The nominees for Creator of the Year include adamw, alixearle, brookemonk_, keith_lee125, and kristy.sarah. As for the nominees for Video of the Year, those include videos by bretmanrock, chrisandfinck, ronclark__, taylortiminskas, and turkuazkitchen. TikTok is also celebrating CapCut creators, with nominees that include allthatisshe, liahyoo, paigepiskin, recider, and thesocialcreativesclub.
According to TikTok , “Premiering the TikTok Awards in the US marks the start of a new era for our community — honoring creators who’ve turned passion into purpose across every category. Speciality areas from our platform will also have their moment to shine.”
Not the first awards show
While the TikTok Awards might be the first for the company, it’s not the only one. Other platforms such as YouTube have hosted their own. We’re talking about the YouTube Streamy Awards, which has been held annually since around 2009. While Instagram doesn’t have its own award show, it does have the Rings Awards program.
This is less of an awards show and more about creators receiving physical gold rings and digital rings that they can use as their profiles. Social media has definitely come a long way since it first debuted. The rise in our consumption has allowed many creators to turn it into legitimate careers, with some earning millions from their videos , turning them into celebrities.
