If you’re an artist or content creator, TikTok is a great place to showcase your portfolio. Especially in this day and age, where short-form videos are the preferred medium. This is why TikTok has introduced a new feature designed with songwriters in mind. The platform has rolled out a new feature that lets songwriters highlight tracks they’ve written or co-written on their profile.

TikTok is giving songwriters a boost

According to TikTok , the company says it surveyed and interviewed over 870 songwriters. This was done to better understand what these users might want to see on a social media platform, as well as potential monetization opportunities.

This resulted in the new feature, which lets songwriters include a “Songwriter” label on their profile. There is also a new tab that shows off songs they have written. This should help musicians market themselves better to potential clients.

TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership, Jordan Lowy, said , “We are passionately committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok, which is why we built these tools to celebrate and elevate songwriters and their work on our platform.”

He adds, “TikTok is unique in its ability to offer songwriters a way to highlight their musical works alongside their own content, helping them to tell stories about their music, their craft, and their lives, and to raise their profile and build their audience on TikTok, as hundreds of thousands of artist creators already do.”

What’s interesting is that prior to this, TikTok had a separate service called TikTok Music. The company decided to shut it down last year . However, TikTok also launched a TikTok for Artists tool that lets musicians monitor the performance of their tracks.

Important for music

It’s not surprising that TikTok is focusing its efforts on music and musicians. The platform has been instrumental in helping songs go viral. There have been multiple instances in the past where old and forgotten songs have gained a new lease of life, thanks to their use in viral video memes and challenges.

But TikTok could go beyond mere video and audio. A recent report suggests that ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, could be getting into the hardware business. The report claims that ByteDance is looking into producing a mixed reality headset . It will be interesting to see how the company could integrate TikTok an a mixed reality headset together.
