In the latest beta update, the Gboard automatically switches back to letters immediately after you tap an apostrophe. This eliminates the need to press space or toggle layouts again. It also keeps the user’s thumbs moving naturally across the screen. Yes, the tweak is small and might not be very evident for everyone, but it does help typing feel faster and more continuous, especially for users who prefer tapping over swipe-based input.
The update also adds faster settings access and a cleaner look
Gboard ‘s new layout will remain completely optional. The user would see a prompt whenever the feature is enabled. They will also be given a choice to either turn on the feature or remain stuck with the older layout. Once enabled, the auto-switch option can be accessed directly from Settings » Preferences » Shortcuts.
Alongside the new change, the update also introduces a refreshed settings interface using Android ‘s Material 3 design style. Moreover, additional settings or options are now grouped inside rounded containers, making it easier to scan and helping the keyboard look more visually balanced.
