In this day and age, going digital seems to be the standard operating procedure for many companies. This includes invoicing, billing, and even customer service, most of which has gone the digital route. As a result, certain jobs are being lost as part of the digitization process. T-Mobile is among the examples as, according to a post on Reddit , the carrier has started laying off a bunch of employees.
T-Mobile is laying off employees
While T-Mobile hasn’t confirmed or officially announced anything yet, the post (which has since been deleted) certainly seems to suggest that the carrier is in the process of laying off employees. The original post by user EasternContract7627 titled their post “Layoffs” followed by a message that says, “The internet has been swirling about today. I’m getting ready to head to the last-minute scheduled meeting with my director in one hour.”
In a reply by another user, Forsaken-Ad-6345, they say, “I work at a call center, and they have corporate security here today, have moved the shredded paper bins, and all of the management have classified meeting makers. Shit’s about to go down.” This was echoed by other replies, presumably by other T-Mobile employees.
In a way, it’s not surprising this is happening. T-Mobile is by no means in any kind of financial trouble. The company is looking to cut costs by getting rid of employees from certain departments, like from its call centers. This is because the carrier is trying to transition into being a digital carrier .
So, instead of relying on customer service reps, T-Mobile wants users to solve their own issues via the dreaded T-Life app . The app is supposed to be a one-stop shop for T-Mobile products. The idea is that customers will be able to handle things themselves without needing a human rep.
Others are doing it too
That being said, T-Mobile isn’t alone in getting rid of employees in favor of more cost-effective solutions. In addition to going digital, AI is all the rage these days, and companies are realizing that AI can do the jobs of humans. And in some cases, even better. This has led to thousands of jobs being lost as companies are getting rid of certain positions.
However, we’d like to think that when one door closes, another opens. Think of when smartphones came about. This led to a demand for apps, resulting in more jobs being created in the process. Although, obviously for now this sucks for T-Mobile employees.
