The Verizon network experienced a rare network outage for nearly 10 hours on January 14th. While network outages are not very uncommon, a widespread cut-off like this is very rare. While the services are now back and working completely fine, the carrier hasn’t given out a reason. However, Verizon is making up for it by giving out account credits to those affected by the outage.
Verizon offers customers $20 account credits after a 10-hour outage
Verizon customers on January 14th started reporting connectivity issues on mobile data, phone calls, and SMS. iPhone users just saw an “SOS” icon, while Android users saw a cross-out on their network icons. Nearly 10 hours later, Verizon finally confirmed that it addressed the issue and told users to “restart their devices to reconnect to the network” if they still faced the issue.
Verizon has yet to confirm the reason, but it reportedly said that it’ll directly share details with customers. It has, however, stepped up to offer account credits for all of that time lost.
The company has yet to confirm the reason
Verizon is giving affected customers $20 credits, which, as per the company, is enough to cover multiple days of service. This is a neat way to give back to its customers. Verizon doesn’t seem to be automatically applying the credits to your account or bill. Instead, you will have to log in to the MyVerizon app and accept the credit. The company notes users will receive a text once the credit is available. It appears to be on a per-account basis instead of per-line.
“ Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves. To help provide some relief to those affected, we will give you a $20 account credit that can be easily redeemed by logging into the myVerizon app. You will receive a text message when the credit is available. On average, this covers multiple days of service. Business customers will be contacted directly about their credits.
This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit, really, can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us. If you’re still having trouble connecting, please restart your device (power down and power back on). This is the fastest way to reconnect your phone to the network. We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that you expect from Verizon ,” said Verizon in a statement.
