Xiaomi announced two new smartphones recently, its new T series phones. The Xiaomi 15T Pro is the more powerful of the two, and that’s the phone we’re here to check out. The Xiaomi 15T also arrived, though it’s a class below the ‘Pro’ model, despite the fact that there are some similarities between them. In any case, the Xiaomi 15T Pro actually comes with the immensely powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ processor, and other specs that are nothing to scoff at.

Xiaomi’s T series phones were always rather compelling, and the same can be said for the Xiaomi 15T Pro. The phone also looks very nice, sleek and premium, while it packs plenty of power. Despite all that, it won’t cost an arm and a leg. Do note that this is still not the most powerful phone the company offers, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is, the Xiaomi 14 series is still the company’s flagship smartphone series. With that being said, let’s get to it.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Design

The Xiaomi 15T Pro has a rather popular shape these days, without too many curves. Still, Xiaomi managed to throw some curves in there just to spice things up. This phone has a flat front, flat back, and a flat frame. The edges of that frame do curve a bit, for comfort’s sake, though. The corners of the phone are also rounded, just to break up that boxy design, and to provide more comfort to the user.

It has thin display bezels

The display on the front is flat, and it has a centered display camera hole up top. The bezels around the display are very thin, and they’re also uniform, which is always nice to see. The power/lock button sits on the right-hand side, right below the volume up and down keys. Those are the only buttons on the device, actually. The Type-C port sits at the bottom, along with the main speaker and the SIM card tray.

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro (20) - 1

This phone has a frame that is made out of aluminum, but we’re not sure about its back. It could be either glass or plastic, in all honesty. Its predecessor did include glass, and it does feel similar to that, so… that’s probably it. On the back, you’ll notice a large camera island in the top-left corner. There are three cameras included there, and four cutouts for design purposes, and to accommodate all the necessary sensors.

The camera island looks… interesting

The camera island actually looks quite sleek, and due to Xiaomi’s design, it does not look as bad as it could have looked. It goes up at a 90-degree angle only halfway, and then Xiaomi decided to make slopes on the sides, to break the design a bit, and to make it look like it’s thinner than it actually is. It’s a really nice solution, in all honesty. The Xiaomi 15T Pro is a large phone at 162.7 x 77.9 x 7.96mm.

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro (26a) - 2

With that being said, the phone is immensely comfortable to use, albeit a bit slippery. It weighs 210 grams, but I would have never guessed, it actually seems a bit lighter than that. The weight distribution is not bad, even though its top half is heavier than the bottom half. That is to be expected due to its cameras. I am used to large devices, so that was not a problem here either. The overall design is also quite nice, it’s actually one of my favorite Xiaomi designs I’ve seen in a long time, especially in the Mocha Gold color you’ll see here. Xiaomi is also offering Black and Gray as well, but this is definitely my favorite of the bunch.

It is IP68 certified

The phone is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. I was caught in a light drizzle with the phone, though I haven’t fully tested its water and dust resistance. It’s standard certification for water and dust resistance, though, to give you some peace of mind. In any case, Xiaomi did a very, very nice job with the design here. I basically don’t have any complaints.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Accessories

What will you get in the retail box. Well, everything except the charger, basically. Xiaomi does include a charging cable in there, a Type-C to Type-C cable, which is standard. Plus paperwork and a SIM card tray. The company was also kind enough to include a case as well. Xiaomi does that often, including a regular silicone case, which offers good protection. A gray case is included, and it can be a great solution for many people, or at least a temporary one until you get a case you like more. The point is, it offers good protection. A screen protector is also pre-applied on the phone’s display, so you’re good on that front too.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Display

The Xiaomi 15T Pro features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display. This panel comes with a 144Hz refresh rate, and it has a 480Hz touch sampling rate. The resolution you’re getting is 2772 x 1280 pixels, which comes down to 447 ppi. DC dimming is also included in the package, and the peak brightness this display can provide you is 3,200 nits, in theory. It’s also worth noting that the panel is protected by the Gorilla Glass 7i from Corning. On top of that, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported, while the display also comes with a number of TUV certifications. It’s a good display that will try to protect your eyes as much as possible.

The display is big, beautiful, and super smooth

My experience with this display has been great, for the most part. The display is big and beautiful, and it does offer good touch response. The resolution was not a problem at all, it’s a very sharp display, while it’s also vivid. You can fine-tune it to your liking in the settings, but I decided to stick with the default setting. If you prefer even more vivid colors, that’s something you can set up without a problem. The viewing angles are also great, there are no issues with that whatsoever. It was also very smooth, which is not surprising thanks to its refresh rate. It ran mostly at 120Hz, though, and adapted as needed. I was able to get it to go to 144Hz during gaming only.

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro (1) - 12

There’s almost nothing to complain about

Is there something to complain about? Well, for me, it’s the auto brightness aka adaptive brightness. It was never quite to my liking. I tried to tweak it during my week-long usage, but it never stuck. It was jumping all over the place. It was constantly a bit too dim for my taste even though I usually don’t like my displays to be too bright. Perhaps it just needed more time to adapt, that’s possible. I finally gave up around my 5th day of use, and switched to manual brightness. This is also an easy fix for Xiaomi, if it’s an issue. Other than that, everything was pretty much great.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Performance

The Xiaomi 15T Pro is fueled by an outstanding chip. Up until recently, it was MediaTek’s flagship offerings. The Dimensity 9400+ fuels this smartphone. That processor has proven itself over and over again. Not only is it immensely powerful, but it’s also great with power consumption. Well, presuming that the company using it does a good job with optimization of its own software, of course. More on that later.

This chip is aided by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 flash storage. Xiaomi did not skimp out on RAM or storage here, as both modules are some of the best the market has to offer. To top it all off, the Xiaomi 3D IceLoop System is also integrated, for cooling purposes. All of that sounds great on paper, so, the question remains, does the Xiaomi 15T Pro deliver in the performance category?

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro gaming image 1 - 13

The performance is excellent, as it should be, considering the hardware

The short answer is… yes, it does. The performance, overall, is excellent, as expected. You can basically do whatever you want on this phone, without lag being a part of the pictures. That goes for gaming as well, but let’s talk about regular day-to-day performance first. The Xiaomi 15T Pro has outstanding animations that are faster than what most other Android OEMs offer. I did not find myself in the need to speed them up here. That, combined with the general snappiness of HyperOS, everything works as expected.

I really pushed the phone, did some heavy multitasking, and it delivered. Was it the smoothest performance around? Well, no, it was not. There were some hiccups here and there. Small ones, which I wouldn’t really connect to lag. There were some skipped frames along the way, in situations where there shouldn’t be. The good news is that this wasn’t a frequent occurrence, and quite frankly not many people will notice. I did experience major lag in the camera app on two occasions while I was shooting in low light, though, for whatever reason. I do hope that Xiaomi will look into that.

You can easily play whatever game you want

Was gaming a problem? No, not at all, quite the contrary, I enjoyed myself quite a bit. The phone did get warm, but that’s about it. The longest gaming session I’ve had was around an hour and 15 minutes, though, while I was playing Genshin Impact. The phone handled that game like a champ, as it did with Pokémon Go, 8 Ball Pool, and Subway Surfers. The performance was smooth.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Battery Life

The Xiaomi 15T Pro includes a 5,500mAh battery on the inside. That’s a good battery size considering the display size here, and everything else. In case it doesn’t end up being enough, the phone supports extremely fast charging. Xiaomi included 90W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge here. You will need to get supported chargers in order to take advantage of that. That goes for both a wired charging brick and a wireless charger/charging stand that will support 50W charging. It would be best if you get both from Xiaomi, but at least for wired charging, that’s not mandatory, as the device supports Power Delivery 3.0 and Quick Charge 4. There are plenty of chargers that support those standards out there.

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro (46) - 15

The battery life is a non-issue, quite the contrary

The battery life was actually really, really good. That’s what you’d expect with a 5,500mAh battery pack and the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, though. I was able to go really high in terms of screen-on time, reaching almost 8 hours at one point, while still having around 20% of battery juice left in the tank. I had a couple of days where I was at 7 hours of screen-on time with the same battery level, but that’s when I was hammering the camera real hard, and also playing some games. All in all, this phone can get you through the day even if you’re a power user. I’ve also noticed that the battery got better after 3-4 charging cycles.

The charging is… extremely fast

The phone supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, as already mentioned. If you’re wondering how fast will it charge, well, I found a compatible charger from UGREEN to allow the phone to utilize its full charging speed, and it charged up in only 37 minutes. What I couldn’t test was wireless charging, unfortunately.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Camera

The Xiaomi 15T Pro has a Leica-based triple camera setup on the back. This camera hardware is nothing to scoff at, quite the contrary. I had high expectations going into the camera review, in all honesty. Let’s go over the specs real quick. The main camera is a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 900 sensor (1/1.55-inch sensor size) with an f/1.62 aperture lens. OIS is supported, and this camera offers a 23mm focal length equivalent. The Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.62-3.0/15-115 ASPH lens is used by Xiaomi.

Ultrawide & telephoto cameras are notably less impressive than the main one… on paper

The second camera on the back is a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/3.0-inch sensor size, f/2.2 aperture lens, 120-degree FoV). To round it all up, there is also a 50-megapixel super telephoto camera (1/2.76-inch sensor size, f/3.0 aperture lens, 115mm focal length equivalent, OIS). A single 32-megapixel camera sits on the front. That camera has an f/2.2 aperture, a 90-degree FoV, and a 21mm equivalent focal length. 4K video recording (up to 120 fps) and 8K video recording (up to 30 fps) are supported on the phone.

The main camera on this phone is actually really good. It doesn’t have as large of a sensor as some flagship smartphone offerings out there, nor as large as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but it’s good on paper and good in practice. More on that soon. The ultrawide camera is the least impressive out of the three, on paper. Now let’s talk about how they actually perform, whether what’s on paper matches actual use.

AH Xiaomi 15T Pro (27) - 16

The main camera offers great performance, regardless of lighting

Spoiler alert, this phone offers really, really good camera performance. The color science is well-optimized between the three cameras, even though there’s a difference in the quality of output. The main camera performs best, which is to be expected. Do note that I used the Leica Vibrant setting for all the photo samples you’ll see below. Leica Authentic is also an option, but I’m not a fan of the vignetting it brings along with it. In any case, the photos the phone was able to provide are vivid, detailed, and well-balanced throughout. The main camera was also quite consistent in terms of photos and very reliable. The white balance was also on point. No, the photos don’t look all that closer to real life, as they pull more to the vibrant side with this mode, but this is the output that most people will appreciate. They’re also a bit contrasty. All in all, they look very good.

What about low light? Well, the main camera did a fine job in that regard too. Both indoors and outdoors. That sensor allows plenty of light to enter the shot, and as long as you’re not in pitch black conditions, the photos look good. They’re not the most detailed low-light shots in the market, but they’re good. Street light reflections were also not a problem, for the most part. When I tried taking a picture of a closer street lamp, that’s when glare was an issue. I did that just to see how the camera will handle it, even though you likely never will. So that’s not really an issue.

The ultrawide camera is the least impressive one

The ultrawide camera on the phone is not as impressive, but it did a good job. You can see a slight difference in color balance on those images, and they’re generally slightly darker. The main camera does offer better quality, but that’s not surprising. During daytime, the ultrawide camera does a great job. When the light goes away, it all depends on the setting. You will see a difference in quality, though, the darker it gets the more details get lost, while the images are also darker than the ones from the main camera. Still, the performance is good. I’ve used far worse ultrawide cameras at this price point.

A telephoto camera does great with portraits, and during the day

What about the periscope telephoto camera? Well, It does a fine job during the day, but in nighttime, well, it depends. If there’s very little light around, it’ll fall apart. Generally speaking, the images during the day are detailed and vivid. No, nowhere near the main camera, but still, they’re very good. That camera also does a great job with portraits. It was my second most-used camera during testing, and very close to the main shooter, actually. I’d say that half of the image in nighttime I’ve captured were good, the other half, not so much. It’s not exactly great when the light goes away, which is not surprising considering the hardware. So, if you plan on using it, my recommendation is to stick to daytime shots, or at least well-lit nighttime ones.

I also like Xiaomi’s camera UI. Everything you need is either on the screen, or a swipe/tap away. You also get some customizability here. You have access to 5 camera modes that you can either tap on or swipe through. If you need more, swipe up, and that’s it. Various zoom ranges are placed right above the shutter key, while some additional options are at the top. Leica filters are available to the right, while aperture control is on the left. You’ll also see Leica shooting modes in the top-right corner. The UI is simple to use, and yet you have access to everything if you need to tweak something real quick. It’s one of my favorite camera UIs.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Software

Androd 15 came pre-installed on the Xiaomi 15T Pro, with HyperOS 2. Now, do note that I was using this phone prior to launch, which Xiaomi did not put off the table. We often do that with devices, and the company usually says when we should wait for a specific update. The software that was installed on the device came with a July Android security patch, while an update to the August Android security patch came halfway through testing.

HyperOS works really well, and it offers plenty of customization

With that being said, HyperOS worked really well on the phone. While it is not my favorite OS, personally, many people like it, and I can see why. You’re getting plenty of customization here, along with outstanding and snappy animations. Unfortunately, some inconsistencies are still here. Xiaomi decided to make some odd design choices, like limiting the notification icons in the status bar to three (it’s 1 by default). That’s just one example, but it’s a move that isn’t too popular amongst Android users.

It is quite different than stock Android

For the most part, however, there’s plenty to like here, just note that HyperOS is quite different to stock Android. It loves the see-through icon design with semi-transparent backgrounds. It’s like a mix of Android and iOS, in a way. Other iOS-like influences are included, such as keeping all your apps on the home screen, instead of in the app drawer. That is easily changeable though, so you have options. You can set up the device so that it suits you best. There are also Themes that you can utilize, and various other personalization options. You can change the lock screen appearance, tweak the icons, mess with the fonts, and utilize Always-On Display, if you’d like. Changing on-screen fingerprint effects is also possible, and so on. There’s plenty of such tweaks included.

If you prefer using one-handed mode on large-screen devices, when you need it, that’s an option here too. It works more or less like it does on stock Android, which is a good thing. Gesture shortcuts are also available, such as swiping across the display with three fingers, and so is the ‘Quick ball’. That option puts a circle on the display, which you can tap and swipe over in order to activate specific actions. All of that is customizable. So we’d recommend going through the settings and tweaking the phone to your liking before you start using it.

If you like using third-party launchers… this is not a phone for you

If you’re a person who likes to use third-party launchers, well, you’re out of luck. HyperOS, unfortunately, does not support them, at all… if you’re using navigation gestures, which most people do. You cannot utilize them at all (unless you’re using on-screen buttons), which is a shame. It has been that way for years, and Xiaomi is sticking to it. Decisions like these are why this is not my first choice when it comes to an Android skin, but it’s hard to deny HyperOS has evolved, and it’s more appealing than ever before.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Audio

What about the audio aspect? Well, there are stereo speakers included here, two of them. It’s a standard setup for smartphones these days, and these speakers are actually quite good. Dolby Atmos support is included, while the phone also offers Hi-Res and Hi-Res Wireless certifications.

The sound the phone can provide is plenty loud, and the sound quality is also good. It’s not too sharp, not at all. I actually don’t have a single complaint about these speakers, or the earpiece on the phone. The call quality was more than fine. Also, there are three microphones on the device, which is also a standard ordeal at this level.

Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: Should you buy it?

Is the Xiaomi 15T Pro the right phone for you? Well, it has plenty of competition at this price range (€800), but… it has plenty to offer and holds its own. It has a great build quality, an outstanding screen, and great performance. The camera performance is also above average, especially when it comes to the main camera. The battery life is also great, and if you get a charger to utilize its full charging speed, you’ll also be able to charge it in no time. Xiaomi did cut some corners, of course, as this is not the company’s most powerful smartphone, but it does strike a great balance, and it’s a great offering overall. It’s truly easy to recommend, and yes, I’d get this over the standard Xiaomi 15.
