Xiaomi and Leica have collaborated with each other over the past few years. So, when we heard that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition had been confirmed, it did not really come as a complete surprise.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition confirmed

In a post on Xiaomi’s official Weibo account , the company confirmed the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition phone. So, what makes this version of the phone different? From what we can tell, it looks like the phone will sport a physical rotary ring on the back. This gives users manual control over the zoom.

The company is calling it the “Master Zoom Ring,” and the ring surrounds the entire camera module. The teaser image also suggests that the phone could sport more prominent Leica branding, along with a specially designed box. We also wouldn’t be surprised if it came bundled with some extra Leica-branded accessories.

Note that nothing has been officially confirmed yet. However, the company is expected to make the official announcement on December 25 , so we should have all the details then.

What else can we look forward to?

Apart from the “Master Zoom Ring” and maybe some potential Leica-branded accessories, we expect the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition to be more or less the same as the regular Ultra model.

This means we can look forward to the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. It will also be available in two colors , a black/dark gray variant and a green variant. However, note that that’s for the “regular” model. We’re not sure if the Leica Edition will sport a different finish, but it’s probably safe to assume that it will.

As for the camera setup, it is rumored to sport a 1-inch main sensor with a 200MP variable zoom periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi claims that the telephoto camera has received Leica’s Apochromatic optical certification, making it a first for a smartphone. This helps to reduce chromatic aberrations and improve overall clarity.

In any case, we should have all the official details, including pricing and availability , tomorrow. So, if you’re intrigued by this collaboration, check back with us tomorrow for the full rundown.
