Xiaomi 17 Ultra is teased to debut in China next week , with rumors pointing to a December 26th launch date. Like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the main focus will be on cameras, taking advantage of Leica technology. The company is expected to bring some new tech with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, one of which could be the continuous optical zoom with around 3x to 7x zoom capability.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra may feature continuous optical zoom tech

According to a recent report , the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s telephoto lens will likely arrive with continuous zoom tech. This should offer images with clearer details. The telephoto lens will apparently come with continuous optical zoom technology and support a 70mm to 100mm equivalent focal length. This will cover a zoom range of 3x to 7x.

To put things into perspective, continuous optical zoom is an advanced imaging technology. The lenses physically move to offer lossless zoom across a range. It will maintain sharpness at every point instead of switching between fixed lenses. This should deliver clearer images, without pixelating from digital zoom.

Superior cameras

Furthermore, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will get a circular rear camera module. We already know this, courtesy of the leaked live images and alleged photography kit images. This setup could include a 200MP Samsung S5KHPE sensor, which supports continuous optical zoom technology. Xiaomi 17 Ultra will also be the first phone to feature a Leica APO zoom camera. This will apparently deliver superior macro images irrespective of the lighting conditions.

Though all that sounds good, the Xiaomi phone will only get triple cameras, compared to quad sensors on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Aside from the 200MP lens, it could also house a 50MP OVX10500U primary camera and a 50MP OV50M or a 50MP S5KJN5 ultrawide lens. Rest assured, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is likely to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.85-inch OLED display with a high refresh rate, and blazing-fast 100W fast charging.

The phone will debut in China first and also gradually expand to global markets in the first quarter of 2026.
