The Xiaomi 17 series has been available in China for a while now. We’re inching close to the global announcement. Though there are three models in the series, the vanilla Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, only the base variant may debut globally, along with a new Xiaomi 17 Ultra. We’ve been hearing a lot about the alleged ‘Ultra’ model in recent times. A new leak now offers a closer look at the Xiaomi 17 Ultra photography kit, and also the phone’s rear camera deco.

Images of Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s photography kit leak

The Xiaomi Ultra 17 Ultra’s leaked images contradict recent reports of the phone having a quad-camera setup. We can see the phone having a triple camera layout on the back. The circular camera module is largely similar to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. This strategic downgrade reportedly hints at optimization of specific focal lengths and sensor sizes rather than an increase in sensor count.

Moving past the camera deco, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship seems to have a textured back panel design, with a color-matching photography kit. We see physical buttons/controls on the photography kit, possibly to adjust the camera settings. The phone could be available in beige/gold and black colors, going by the leaked images.

More than just cameras

Apparently, during the development phase, several sensor configurations were tested with the codename “Nezha.” But the final specifications could include a 50MP OVX10500U primary lens, a 200MP S5KHPE telephoto unit, and a 50MP OV50M or 50MP S5KJN5 ultrawide lens. It may have a 50MP OV50M front camera. The lack of a fourth sensor is a downgrade. It remains to be seen how the company will make up for it. For what it’s worth, the Leica branding is still there.

Beyond cameras, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be a powerful device in terms of performance. It’ll get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, promising a premium experience. HyperOS 3 will handle the software side of things. The global variant of the phone may have satellite communication support. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra could debut before the end of this year in China first.
