Samsung and Huawei are the only brands offering tri-fold phones, with the Galaxy Z TriFold and Mate XTs . The category is still very new when compared to regular foldables , but in time, we can expect more brands to jump in. One among them could be Xiaomi , whose alleged tri-fold phone has now reportedly appeared in a new Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) certification.

Xiaomi’s tri-fold phone reportedly appears in GSMA certification

The new Xiaomi certification shows the model number 2608BPX34C. While nowhere in the listing does it hint at a tri-fold phone, speculations in the industry point to the long-awaited Xiaomi MIX TriFold. This three-part foldable device, like any other tri-fold, will open up to a large tablet screen. Xiaomi reportedly showed off its tri-fold concept in 2018, but there has been no commercial product yet.

Not much else is revealed about the Xiaomi foldable at the moment. But we’ve come across a Xiaomi tri-fold device patent listing with some renders of the product. The handset has a horizontal module to accommodate triple camera sensors. The patent renders suggest that Xiaomi may opt for a design similar to Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, with the main screen folding inward.

The tri-fold may debut in Q3 2026

Currently, Xiaomi is reportedly working on two new foldables, the Xiaomi 17 Fold and the Xiaomi MIX Flip 3. These may debut in the first quarter of 2026. Besides these two, Xiaomi is apparently readying a third foldable for Q3 2026. It is believed that this could be the Xiaomi tri-fold phone.

If true, the phone will boast premium hardware, including a Snapdragon 8-series chip, multiple cameras, and possibly a lightweight design. A tri-fold phone would be a major turning point for Xiaomi. But then again, whether it’ll expand to global regions is a question with no clear answer yet.
