It appears that the company may repeat this in 2027, a year when Apple will reportedly introduce the 20th anniversary iPhone. A new report claims that Xiaomi will jump straight to the Xiaomi 20 series, skipping the Xiaomi 19.

For context, marking the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, Apple is reported to debut the iPhone 20 lineup in 2027. Technically, the Cupertino giant should be launching the iPhone 19 models in the said year, but it is jumping ahead to commemorate the occasion. This isn’t the first time. In 2017, Apple skipped the iPhone 9 and launched the iPhone X during its 10th anniversary.
XiaomiTime reports that Xiaomi will skip the 19 series and jump straight to Xiaomi 20 in 2027. However, there’s no concrete proof to back this. This year, we saw Xiaomi launch the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, skipping the Xiaomi 16 entirely. This is evidently to create parity with Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup. This also helped Xiaomi position itself as a direct competitor to Apple in the international market.
The company could bring significant upgrades
For Xiaomi, skipping the number 19 doesn’t hurt, as it apparently has no unique cultural meaning. The company is not celebrating any major anniversary in 2027 that would align with Apple’s move. Hence, this move appears to be a clear marketing tactic to grab some of the market attention of Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone .
Aligning numerically with Apple could also allow users to make comparisons between the 20th anniversary iPhone and the Xiaomi 20. How far this will be beneficial to Xiaomi is something time will tell. But for that it’s worth, Xiaomi may use this strategy to debut innovative technologies, including better cameras, new AI improvements, and much more. Considering the report is indeed true, the Xiaomi 20 will debut in 2027.
